My Childhood Dream
As a South Indian, it was my childhood dream to move to the Gulf region. With over 9 million Indians residing in Gulf countries, it's no surprise that many Indians have made the region their home. The migration of Indians to Gulf countries for employment began as early as the 1970s.
Indians in the Gulf Region
Today, Indians occupy prominent positions in various fields, with several notable Indian business leaders, such as Lulu Group MD Yusuf Ali, Mukesh Jagtiani, and Sunil Vaswani, making significant contributions to the region's economy. Indians can be found in top-level positions as well as in lower-skilled jobs, showcasing the diverse range of opportunities available in the Gulf region.
Taxation in the Gulf Region
Moreover, the Gulf region offers a significant advantage in terms of taxation. Unlike European countries, which impose various taxes on income, goods, and services, many Gulf countries have a relatively low or no-tax policy. This makes the Gulf region an attractive destination for individuals and businesses looking to minimize their tax burden.
Why I Prefer Europe
However, after considering moving to a Gulf country, my dreams have shifted. I now find myself wondering, 'Why do I prefer Europe over the Gulf?' There are numerous factors that have influenced my decision.
Advantages of Europe
One of the primary reasons I prefer European countries is that most of them are free societies with minimal stringent rules and a liberal mindset. This openness creates a welcoming environment for individuals from diverse backgrounds. Another significant advantage is the commendable accommodation facilities provided to workers, regardless of their skill level.
Better Working Conditions in Europe
Even unskilled workers are treated with dignity and provided with decent living arrangements. Furthermore, European countries offer competitive wages for even small, unskilled jobs, surpassing those found in Gulf countries. This ensures that workers can maintain a decent standard of living and support themselves and their families.
Travel Freedom in Europe
Lastly, working in a Schengen country offers unparalleled freedom to explore Europe. With a single visa, I can visit numerous countries without the hassle of additional visa requirements or border checks. This flexibility allows me to experience the rich cultural diversity of Europe, broaden my horizons, and create lasting memories.
